PHOTOS & RESULTS: Our U10 and U14 teams didn’t have to venture far to find some challenging competition over the Easter holiday break, with both battling it out in the annual Magic Group Academy Easter Cup tournament, held at The Southport School (TSS). This revered event brings together academy teams from across the region and interstate in a rapid three-day format, with only the very best progressing to the finals.

An eventful tournament for our boys, facing off against friends and foe in some trying and widely varied conditions over the three days. Great to see a handful of teams from Melbourne Victory’s youth academy making the journey north for this tournament. TSS is a special venue with striking city views and lush pitches, and is arguably the spiritual and original home of football on the Gold Coast, with some of the very first organised soccer teams to ever take to the field in our city doing so right here in the very early 1900s.

Our GC Rangers teams put on class performances, matched only by their effort and grit, with both teams making the finals and taking down some top level teams along the way. Thanks to the organisers, players, coaches and parents for another great event. Results and galleries below.

U14 Academy Division

League/Bracket Champions (undefeated 9 wins for 9 games)
Best Defensive Record all tournament (fewest goals conceded)
Grand Finalists – Silver Medal – Tournament Runners Up

U10 Academy Division

Group/Bracket Champions (undefeated 3 wins for 3 games)
Semi Finalists (lost by a single goal to eventual event champions from Melbourne Victory)
Third Place Playoff win – Tournament Third Place
